Gytsjerk is one of 7 villages in the Trynwâlden region, located in the north of the Frisian municipality Tytsjerksteradiel. Leeuwarden is only 10 km away, Dokkum 15 km. In the immediate area is ideal for a beautiful bike ride or a walk through the villages and nature reserves (lakes, meadows, forested surrounding).

The 7 villages in this region were founded by 7 farmers, all sons of the rich widow Tryntsje, after whom the region Trynwâlden is named. Each son named the village he founded after his own name. So Gytsjerk became the village of son Gyke.
